Ohio State won’t be quite full against Rutgers on Saturday, but the Buckeyes will have several notable players returning to the contest.
Among the 13 players listed as unavailable in the official team situation report on Saturday are senior defensive end Tyreke Smith, who also missed last week’s game, and red half Miyan Williams.
OHIO STATE SITUATION REPORT FOR RUTGERS |
---|
GAME DECISION |
LB PALAIE GAOTEOTE |
UNAVAILABLE |
WR KAMRYN BABB |
Senior linebacker Palaie Gaoteote is the only Buckeye listed as a playing time decision for Saturday’s Big Ten game.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste was not available against Akron, but the junior in the red jersey could replace Smith in the starting XI at the defensive end as he was not on the status report. Taron Vincent is another defensive lineman who missed last week’s game, but the starting defensive tackle is expected to be back against Rutgers on Saturday.
On the offensive line, Harry Miller and Thayer Munford could see the action on Saturday, as neither were on the situation report. Miller was scheduled to start center for the Buckeyes at the start of the season, but was unavailable for the first four games while red-shirted rookie Luke Wypler replaced. Ryan Day said this week that Miller will be back on the pitch, which would suggest Wypler will remain the center starter.
Munford missed the game against Akron after sustaining a lower leg injury against Tulsa, but could return to the starting lineup at left guard in place of Matt Jones, who started last week.
Another Ohio State starter who looks set for action on Saturday is cornerback Cameron Brown, who missed the season opener against Minnesota and Akron’s game last week while ‘he suffered from a knee injury. Sevyn Banks started in his place a week ago, while real freshman Denzel Burke has started all four games for the Buckeyes this season.
Second-year spreader Julian Fleming will miss his second straight game for Ohio State, while Mike Hall, Darrion Henry-Young, Jakailin Johnson and Jake Seibert are new additions to the roster of downs this week.
Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Piscataway, New Jersey, as the Buckeyes and Scarlet Knights each play their second conference game on Saturday.
