Bo Nix is set to make a 29th straight start as a quarterback for Auburn.
Nix, who was on the bench in the second half of last week’s win over Georgia State, is expected to start against LSU in Auburn’s opener in Baton Rouge, a source close to the situation. Nix starts off against LSU transfer quarterback TJ Finley, who led the Tigers to a victory over Nix last weekend.
Auburn coach Bryan Harsin has been silent on the quarterback who would lead Auburn into Death Valley, as Nix and Finley parted ways with first-team reps in practice this week.
Nix has started every game for Auburn since his first season, but he was pulled out at the end of the third quarter of last weekend’s game against Georgia State in favor of Finley. The second-year transfer came into play with Auburn behind by five and helped the team secure the victory. He led a 13-game, 98-yard campaign in the dying minutes of the game, giving Auburn a 45-second lead to play when he found Shedrick Jackson for a 10-yard touchdown on a broken fourth and 9 play.
Finley finished the game with 9 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, and he completed 5 of 8 assists in the decisive practice. Nix, meanwhile, completed just 13 of 27 passes for 156 yards and was unable to lead a touchdown of eight possessions against opponent Sun Belt.
“These two guys have to be ready to go,” Harsin said earlier in the week. “… These two guys will be good to go. These two guys are going to get ready. These two guys did a great job on Sunday. They got out, they worked hard, they were focused. And like I said before, it’s no different from any other position. Prepare to play.
