Apple has canceled plans to release an updated iPad Air with an OLED display next year due to quality and cost concerns, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a note today. to investors obtained by MacRumors.

In March, Kuo announced that Apple had an ‌iPad Air‌ with an OLED display in the works for next year. Today, Kuo revised his prediction, saying it won’t as Apple canceled those plans due to cost and performance not meeting company expectations.

Kuo previously said that the 11-inch iPad Pro will receive a mini LED display next year, and Kuo today doubled that claim by saying that it will be “at the center of [the] iPad lineup in 2022. “Currently, only the 12.9-inch iPad Pro includes the new mini-LED technology. One of the reasons Kuo says Apple has canceled its OLED ‌iPad Air‌ is that it may have been Prejudicial to sales of the upcoming 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ with a mini-LED display.

While Apple plans to stick with an LCD display for the iPad Air‌, Kuo says the company continues to research and develop new display technologies for the ‌iPad‌ line. A report last week suggested that Apple and Samsung had abandoned joint plans to develop an OLED display for an upcoming updated 10.9-inch iPad Air.
