Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has slammed 19-year-old midfielder Nico Gonzalez after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.
Nico started the game with 17-year-old Gavi at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium but got hooked at half-time with Barca already down 2-0.
Koeman spoke about Nico after the game and believes the youngster should have done better for Thomas Lemar’s first goal.
“You can’t leave that much space when we lost the ball. We had talked about it exactly, our midfielders had to follow their men – and Nico let Lemar run for their first goal,” he said. .
“That’s why we played with three center-backs sometimes, we leave too much space and don’t have a rhythm in midfield to cover players like Llorente or Lemar in this case.”
