Steve Bannon predicts MAGA ‘sweeper’ victories in 2022 and 2024, calls for swift government takeover

Steve Bannon believes the pro-Trump far-right Make American Great Again (MAGA) movement will achieve “crushing” victories in 2022 and then again in 2024, as he calls for a swift takeover of the federal government.

Bannon served as a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump during his first year in the White House in 2017. The right-wing political strategist also served as chief executive of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. He was officially pardoned by Trump in January after being accused of fraud in a crowdfunding campaign to build a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

While Democrats can currently control the House of Representatives, Senate and White House, Bannon predicts that everything will change in the next two elections.

“We’re going to have a landslide victory in 2022 and that’s just the preamble to a landslide victory in 2024, and this time we’re going to be ready – and have a MAGA perspective, MAGA policies, not standard Republican policies,” Bannon told NBC News.

Trump’s prominent ally has said the MAGA movement should be ready after the next election to quickly co-opt the federal government.

“If you want to take control of the administrative state and deconstruct it, you have to have shock troops ready to take it back immediately,” Bannon said.

Bannon now hosts the Crisis unit podcast, which regularly features interviews with right-wing figures and Trump associates like MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, Reps Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz, and various conspiracy theorists who falsely claim that the 2020 election has been “rigged” in favor of President Joe Biden. Trump continues to promote this baseless claim to rally his supporters, but the former president and his allies have provided no evidence to support the charge.

Earlier this year, Bannon pitched the idea that Trump could become Speaker of the House after the 2022 midterm election. He made the remarks at an event in February for Republicans in Boston.

“He will come back to us. We will have a landslide victory in 2022, and he will lead us in 2024,” Bannon said in a speech at the event. He went on to suggest that Republicans could nominate Trump as head of the House of Representatives if they regain control of the legislative chamber in 2022.

“We are totally getting rid of Nancy Pelosi and President Trump’s first act as president [of the House] will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency, ”he said. Other right-wing commentators have since also promoted the idea.

Under the Constitution, any American can be appointed Speaker of the House if they garner sufficient support within the legislative chamber. The person does not necessarily need to be elected to Congress or any office in order to be selected for the role by the majority of the members of the House.

Trump said the idea was “very interesting” during an interview with far-right radio host Wayne Allyn Root in June.

Republicans are confident they will regain control of the House after the mid-term of 2022, and possibly the Senate as well. Historical precedents suggest that the GOP will win a substantial number of seats, as the ruling president’s party typically loses a significant number of seats during the mid-term of its first four years in office. With Democrats holding power only by the thinnest margins, even a few overturned seats would be enough to bring the House back under Republican control.

Pelosi, a Californian Democrat, ruled out the possibility of the Republicans taking back power. “I know we’ll win in Congress. People say, ‘Well, outside of the year, it’s not a good year.’ But I think all the assumptions about the policy are out of date, ”Pelosi told reporters in September.

Trump has not officially announced whether or not he plans to run for president again in 2024. However, he has repeatedly hinted that this is his plan. Close associates also said they believed he would almost certainly run again.

Former Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Cheddar News last month that the odds of the former president running again are “between 99 and 100 percent.” Miller said he believed Trump “will definitely show up in 2024”.
