Brian Laundrie may have been spotted on the Appalachian Trail

An engineer from Florida is adamant he spoke to Brian Laundrie on a deserted road near the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina on Saturday morning.

Dennis Davis’ alleged encounter with Gabby Petito’s boyfriend, originally from Long Island, comes as police receive reports that Laundrie may be crossing the trail, the world’s longest trail.

“There is no doubt in my mind that I spoke to Brian Laundrie – none at all,” said Davis, 53.

“Dog the Bounty Hunter’s daughter sent me an audio file of Brian’s voice and the voice was the same as I heard.”

A lost and dazed man reportedly waved to Davis on Waterville Road, where the Appalachian Trail passes close to the North Carolina-Tennessee border.

The Appalachians are said to be a familiar region for Laundrie, who has already lived there “on his own for months.”

The man believed to be Laundrie parked his car next to Davis to ask for directions to California using only side roads and declined Davis’ suggestion to take Interstate 40 nearby.

Davis, a father of four who currently treks the Appalachian Trail, said the Laundrie lookalike acted fearfully and figured he was arguing with his girlfriend.

Davis said he believed that if the man was Laundrie, he had been “turned away” from being on the run and the situation with Petito.

According to Dennis Davis, the man he met looked and spoke like the elusive Brian Laundrie.

“He said ‘man, I’m lost.’ I said ‘what are you trying to find?’ and he said ‘my girlfriend and I had a fight but she called me, told me she loved me, and I have to go to California to see her.’

“I said, ‘Well, I-40 is right there and you can take it west to California’ and he said, ‘I’m just going to take this road to California.’

“He was worried and didn’t make sense.”

Davis didn’t immediately recognize the man as a fugitive until he stopped and searched for photos of the outlaw on his phone.

The man Davis saw was driving a white or light-colored pickup truck resembling a Ford F-150 and was wearing a dark bandana on his head.

Davis is frustrated with three calls to the FBI and the 911 calls in North Carolina and Tennessee have not been returned by law enforcement.

Although the road is dark, Davis said the headlights of the two idling cars were enough to see the man so closely.

“Obviously, as a father with a daughter, I want to do whatever I can to help the family find the closure and get this guy off the streets,” he said.

“Law enforcement probably gets millions of leads on this guy, but I’m not a dope dope in the middle of the night, I’m a highly educated professional.

“And I know it was the guy. There is no doubt about that.

“We have this lead but no one does anything, not even a phone call.”

Laundrie returned to Florida after traveling across the country without his girlfriend and travel companion Gabby Petito, 22, on September 1.

Petito was officially reported missing on September 11 and later found dead in Wyoming.

The laundromat remains the only person interested in the affair. He went missing on September 14, according to his parents, who did not report him to police until three days later.

There is an arrest warrant against him for fraud for using someone’s bank card around the time of Petito’s disappearance.
