Konami will revive Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, rumors have it

New reports citing anonymous sources indicate that Konami will return to major game development, with both new installments and remakes planned for Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Silent Hill. As first reported by VGC, many of these games are said to be developed by outside studios.

VGC sources say the first new game will be a “reimagining” of Castlevania made by Konami in Japan.

A new Metal Gear Solid, meanwhile, is reportedly in development by Virtuos, an outside studio that traditionally offers developers assistance in creating 3D assets. Virtuos recently worked on Nintendo Switch ports for XCOM2 and BioShock, and previously helped with Battlefield 1, Uncharted 4, and several Ubisoft games.

“The new project is currently in development and several sources have suggested that it would center on the fan-favorite entry, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater,” VGC said.

There have been several previous rumors about possible future Silent Hill games, including that Polish developers Bloober Team may be making one. Following VGC’s report, Gematsu cites unnamed sources as saying that Hideo Kojima is taking another hit at a Silent Hill game, with financial backing from Sony.

In fairness, at least my source is named.

I asked my own source, a Toffee Crisp multipack bar, who neither confirmed nor denied the information.

Konami apparently withdrew from game development after the release of MGSV, rejecting Hideo Kojima and favoring either smaller games (e.g. Metal Gear Revive) or pachinko machines. The few major games they are still developing have not been well received either. Earlier this week, they released the successor to PES eFootball, which is currently the lowest rated game on Steam.
