Sony is offering free trials of two PS5 games: Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
Right now it seems that free samples are only available in the UK, and how much time you have depends on what game you like; Sackboy would offer five hours of playtime, while Death Stranding offers six (as I own both games, unfortunately I can’t verify that for you!).
As Eurogamer points out, however, that there is a really cruel twist here, as your timer is not limited to the time you spend in the game, but starts the moment you select “Download Trial”. This means that if it takes you 2.5 hours to download Sackboy: A Big Adventure, you will only have 2.5 hours left to play it.
Oddly enough, you can apparently only try one trial per PSN account, which means you have to choose between which game you are most interested in because you can’t taste both. PS4 versions cannot be sampled either.
Free trials run in the UK until October 28, and all progress and trophies will be saved if you decide to go ahead and purchase the full game, although if – for some reason – you decide to purchase downloadable content to try during your trial, you will not be able to play it; Add-ons can only be used with the full version of the game.
Fortunately, the internet has already found a workaround, so before you start your download, jsnals rendering suggests that you create a new account with the same region as your main account and click on “Download trial” on this Account. Once downloaded, go back to your main account and click “Download Trial Version” but – because you have already saved it to your hard drive – you can play straight away for five or six hours. Cool, huh?
Still looking for a PS5 or a Xbox x series? We have good news – looks like the global shortage of chips this makes it so difficult for Sony and Microsoft to meet the demand for their next generation systems.
The CEO of hardware supplier AMD recently announced that the chip shortage “will improve in 2022”, although he warned that supplies “would likely be [be] tight “in the first half of next year. However, since chips may take some time to be ready for manufacturers for about a year, some customers could end up waiting until 2023 for their new technology.
Here is our full list of PS5 exclusives.
