It’s a good thing when hundreds of thousands of people are trying to play your Game. However, like most things in life, too much of a good thing is good … bad.
Amazon Game Studios is taking care of it now, as its recently launched MMO New world struggles to keep up with the high number of players. In an effort to control the problem, new change prevents people from creating new characters in overcrowded servers.
After many delays and betas, from amazon New world MMORPG was finally released on September 28. While many, including by Kotaku own Mike Fahey, enjoyed the new game, it suffered from server issues and bugs since day one. In the first 24 hours or so, over 700,000 players rushed into the game, trying to jump online, and many encountered long lines. Players have reported 212 hour wait times on some servers or you know, over a week of wait.

Since some players have stopped trying to play at all hours of the day, things have calmed down a bit and it has become easier to connect. But for people who call in a fully loaded server, long queues are still an issue. Amazon suggested that new users create characters on sparsely populated servers, promising that character transfers are an upcoming feature in the near future.

To really make sure that the populated servers don’t keep blowing up, AGS has now updated the game and stopped people from creating new avatars on the roughly 30 servers that it marks as “Complete.” The developers explained that this was only a temporary fix, assuming that as more players span more servers and the total number of concurrent users decreases, the blocking new characters would no longer be needed.
Along with this new change, Amazon launched a server status page for the game, so that people can easily see how their New world waiter is a quick glance.
