YouTube.com “Continue to Watch” resumes unfinished videos

YouTube has a nifty web mini-player that is now used to let you quickly “Continue Watching” videos from your phone and other devices.

If you’re watching something and quitting YouTube for Android or iOS, opening YouTube on the web will display that video in the lower right corner. The mini player is queued for about a second before you pause. Instead of the channel name, “Continue Watching” appears below the video title.

Press the play button to automatically start in the minimized view, while clicking anywhere will open the full video page.

This simple continuity feature also works if you’ve paused what you’re watching on YouTube for Android TV and possibly other TVs. It doesn’t seem to work in the opposite direction without “Continue Watching” for YouTube mobile apps.

We first spotted this ability earlier in the week, but more and more users are now seeing it on their devices. You must of course be signed in to the same Google account for the history to sync.

This is faster than going back to the “Library” page and checking the “History” section, or having to manually add to “Watch Later”. This the continuity capability is somewhat reminiscent of the ability to see “other devices tabs” in Chrome
