Bears head coach Matt Nagy handed the stoppage to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor on Sunday, and the result was an impressive performance from rookie quarterback Justin Fields in a victory over the Lions. After the game, Fields said he enjoyed hearing Lazor’s calls.

Fields said Lazor’s voice in his headphones is a calming presence and that Nagy, as the head coach who has to oversee the entire squad, is not so calm.

“He feels good,” Fields said of Lazor. “You know, Bill, he’s in the dressing room, so his voice is still calm.” It’s the only thing I like. Coach, it’s hard for him to be calm if he has to focus on defense, focus on special teams. [Lazor’s] the voice is calm. He’s up there in the box, seeing the pitch, and he did a great job calling the games today.

Nagy was keen to point out that all of the decision-making ultimately comes with him as the head coach, but it was Lazor who made the decisions and Fields seemed to benefit from them.
