Marc Pilcher, the UK-based hairstylist and makeup artist who won an Emmy for Bridgerton, is dead. He was 53 years old.
Pilcher died Sunday after a battle with COVID-19 just three weeks after winning the Creative Arts Emmy Award for his work on the hit Netflix series, his agent confirmed to Hollywood journalist. He was double vaccinated and had no underlying health problems.
“It is with the deepest of heart that we confirm that Marc Elliot Pilcher, Oscar nominee and Emmy Award winning hair and makeup designer / stylist, passed away on Sunday after battle with COVID-19,” reads -on in a press release, in part, from his agent, his family and his friends. “Glamorous and extravagant, he brought his flair and style to each creation. Never limited in his thought process for his designs, he pushed the boundaries and created work never done before.
Pilcher won Outstanding Hairstyle of the Period and / or Character at the Creative Arts Emmys, which took place over two nights on September 11 and 12. All participants were required to provide proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID-19 test.
“The death of Marc Pilcher is beyond words. I will always be in awe of the incredible hair and makeup work he brought to Bridgerton. My heart goes out to his loved ones because we lost him far too soon ”, wrote Bridgerton designer Shonda Rhimes on Twitter.
Netflix added in a statement Monday: “We are saddened by the loss of Marc Pilcher. A phenomenal talent, his work on Bridgerton the first season was unmatched and he was a highly regarded member of the team. Our hearts are with his family and friends at this time. “
Alongside her Emmy for Bridgerton, Pilcher was nominated for an Oscar for his work on 2018 Mary Queen of Scots and consecutively won the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS) for Downton abbey. Bridgerton also earned her an additional MUAHS Guild Award for Best Period Hairstyle and / or Character in a TV Series.
