The 49ers released linebacker Mychal Kendricks from the injured reserve with a settlement on September 4. Could the team be close to signing him again?

The 49ers welcome visiting Kendricks, so he’s apparently healthy again.

Kendricks was diagnosed with a turf toe in the team’s second preseason game, and Kyle Shanahan said at the time that Kendricks would miss at least a month. The team placed Kendricks on the injured list on August 24.

He originally signed with the 49ers on August 15.

Kendricks was sentenced to one day in jail, three years probation and 300 hours of community service this summer after pleading guilty to insider trading in 2018.

Kendricks pleaded guilty when he was a member of the Browns. He never played a game for the franchise, which cut him off during the preseason. Kendricks then signed with Seattle and played 18 games for the Seahawks during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He recorded three sacks and eight tackles for losses in 2019.

He spent time on the Seattle practice squad in 2020 before Washington signed him late in the season. He appeared in a regular season game for Washington before starting its playoff loss to Tampa Bay. Kendricks had six tackles in the playoffs.

Kendricks was a second-round pick for the Eagles in 2012. Over nine seasons, Kendricks appeared in 104 games with 91 starts. He has 19 sacks, 52 tackles for a loss, seven forced fumbles, four interceptions and 30 defended passes.
