IPhone 13 Charging Speed

How fast is the iPhone 13 charging? And what charger are you using?

We already know the The iPhone 13 battery life numbers, but what are the actual charging speeds? We’ve all lined up for the iPhones for this test – the iPhone 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro, and Pro Max – and we’re doing a full charge from a fully discharged battery to 100%.
Without further ado, here are the results of this charging speed test …

How long for a full charge on iPhone 13 / Pro / Max?

Interestingly, the differences in actual charging speeds aren’t as big as you might expect, and the Pro Max charges about as fast as any of the others that have much smaller battery sizes.

Oddly enough, the iPhone 13’s charging speeds slowed down considerably towards the end and it took us the longest to charge, but we believe it was due to some irregularity, and we will repeat the test to confirm the results. results from this particular model, so take that with a grain of salt.

Are iPhone charging speeds slowing?

Yes, as you charge your iPhone, the charging speed decreases as it approaches a full charge. Apple has set limits for the charging speed to decrease when you reach certain battery levels.

For example, you only get the maximum charging speed of 18W-20W until you hit about 50% of the battery level. From there, your iPhone will limit the input power to around 14W, and this will last until you hit a battery level of around 70%. Then it will drop again to around 9W until you hit the 80% level. Finally, from this point and until you reach a full charge, the battery will recharge at rates of 5W. When you hit the last percentage points, it can drop even more into what’s called trickle charge speeds.

All of this is done to protect the health of the battery in the long run. It is common knowledge that most of the strain on the battery occurs in these latter charge levels. Some battery purists recommend that you only charge your battery around 80% if you want to keep it healthy for as long as possible.

How fast is MagSafe on iPhone 13?

Apple introduced MagSafe Magnetic Wireless Charging on the iPhone 12 series in 2020, and it has the advantage that iPhones hook up tightly to a wireless charger and use it most efficiently, and you get speeds of up to up to 15W, faster than 7.5W speeds we used to use regular Qi wireless chargers.

However, even if you might think that this means MagSafe charges twice as fast, it really isn’t.

In our testing, using the Apple MagSafe charger, it took about 2 hours and 45 minutes to fully charge an iPhone, and that’s an hour longer than with Apple’s 20W charging brick and wire. . But this number really depends on the charging brick you are connecting your MagSafe charger to. Further testing showed that using Anker’s 30W chargers connected to MagSafe resulted in faster speeds and a full charger achieved in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

And compared to a standard 7.5W Qi charger, it takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes for a full charge.

Should you buy a MagSafe charger for your iPhone 13 / Pro / Max? Yes, if you like the convenience and the magnetic snap button, but don’t expect the super fast charging that the 15W number might suggest.
