Andrew Wiggins is clear – he did NOT want to take the COVID vaccine … telling members of the media on Monday that he felt the NBA and the government had “forced” him to get the vaccine.
“The only options were to get the shot or not to play in the NBA,” Wiggins said. “It was a tough decision. I hope it works in the long term and in 10 years I’m still healthy.”
The Golden State Warriors forward had fought tooth and nail to avoid receiving the jab … even at one point, asking for a religious exemption from the NBA.
But, that was turned down … and Bay Area health officials demanding that anyone 12 or older be fully vaxxed to attend indoor events – Wiggins said he felt like ‘he had no choice but to take the vaccine.
“It’s not something I wanted to do,” Wiggins said after the Golden State preseason game on Monday night. “But I was kind of forced into it.”
He added, “I guess to do certain things – to work and stuff – I guess you don’t own your body. That’s what it comes down to. You want to work in the company today, so I guess they make the rules about what’s going on in your body and what you do. “
Despite getting the vax… Wiggins told reporters he hoped the others weren’t under as much pressure as he did to take the pictures.
“I hope there are a lot of people out there who are stronger than me and who continue to fight and stand up for what they believe in,” Wiggins said, “and I hope it works for them.”
Doctors, medical experts and health officials, meanwhile, have continuously said the vaccine is safe … and will protect people from the serious side effects of COVID-19.
