Target pays employees an additional $ 2 an hour over the holiday season as it strives to expand its workforce amid widespread labor shortages.

Hourly team members who work in its stores, seasonal team members, service center and supply chain employees and certain head office positions will be rewarded with the extra money for working for the busiest days of business, Target announced Tuesday.

This applies to members of the store team, selected head office and service center who will be required to work every Saturday and Sunday from November 20 to December 19, as well as those who work on Christmas Eve and the day after. Xmas.
Hourly members of the supply chain team will be rewarded if they work for a two-week period, which varies by building, from Oct. 10 to Dec. 18, according to Target.

Target’s director of human resources, Melissa Kremer, said the salary supplement was another way the company expressed “deep gratitude” for their “significant contributions.”
“This team continues to be at the heart of our strategy,” said Kremer. “You have consistently shown up for our guests and each other with tremendous care and we know this busy holiday season will be no different. ”

However, the announcement comes less than two weeks after the company said it was looking to fill 100,000 seasonal positions across the country to combat rising demand during the pivotal buying season. Additionally, the company said it was adding 30,000 positions to its supply chain facilities nationwide.
The company is also providing 5 million overtime to members of its current team, which will equate to more than $ 75 million in extra pay, according to Target.
Even before the holiday season began, all full-time and part-time frontline team members in stores, distribution centers and contact centers were rewarded with bonuses of $ 200 in July.
This is in addition to the five pandemic-related recognition bonuses offered in 2020. The company also increased its starting salary to $ 15 an hour for all team members and coronavirus-related benefits.
