PARIS, October 5 (Reuters) – A protester disrupted a Louis Vuitton fashion show in Paris on Tuesday by walking down the podium with a banner condemning the impact of excessive consumption on the environment.

Carrying a sign saying “overconsumption = extinction”, the woman representing Friends of the Earth France, Youth for Climate and Extinction Rebellion paraded on the same path as the models, causing turmoil in the public, said a Reuters witness .

In the front row, the stars of French cinema Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert hardly budged, while some members of the Arnault clan, seated alongside the CEO and president of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, glanced at each other.

The protester was pinned to the ground by security before being taken away.

The disturbance hardly interrupted the stream of models who hurtled down the paved runway of a Louvre corridor to dramatic organ music punctuated by the sounds of bells.

The show itself had a punk flavor, with suit jackets ripped from the sleeves, leaving the arms bare, and accessories such as studded boots and chainmail headdresses.

Friends of the Earth France said they had targeted the LVMH-owned label (LVMH.PA) to shine the spotlight on the problem of overconsumption.
