Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer behind popular musicals such as Superstar of Jesus Christ, Evita, and The Phantom of the Opera, dropped all the niceties when it comes to the heavily mocked and absolutely tragic film adaptation of his musical Cats in 2019. You know, the one with the overly sexual anthropomorphic cats starring Jason derulo, James corden, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench and Jennifer hudson?

In an interview with Variety, Lloyd Webber says that the source material for Cats was sold to Amblin, where it was originally intended to become an animated feature film directed by Steven Spielberg. However, the project was ultimately handed over to the director. Tom hooper, known for his work on film adaptations of Wretched and The King’s Speech. Previously, Lloyd Webber called Hooper’s approach to the “ridiculous” film.

For the revered composer, the end result was such a heinous characteristic that he adopted a dog for the first time in an attempt to erase everything Memory of Cats.

Cats was all wrong, ”said Lloyd Webber Variety. “There was no real understanding of why the music worked. I saw it and I just thought, ‘Oh, my God, no.’ It was the first time in 70 years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog. So the only good thing that comes out is my little Havanese puppy.

This puppy has become his close companion, and when Broadway reopens, Lloyd Webber has found the perfect reason to take him on a trip.

“I canceled and said I needed him with me at all times because I’m emotionally damaged and need to have this therapy dog,” says Lloyd Webber. “The airline responded and said, ‘Can you prove you really need him?’ And I said ‘Yeah, just watch what Hollywood did to my musical Cats. ‘ Then the approval came back with a note saying, “No doctor’s report required. “
