Player-by-player Matt Vasgersian has informed ESPN executives that he is stepping down from his post on “Sunday Night Baseball,” The Post has learned.
After four years as a team with Alex Rodriguez, Vasgersian wants to focus on pending new deals with MLB Network, and potentially expand his work on Angels regional shows.
“I decided to call it an ending on ‘Sunday Night Baseball’,” Vasgersian said when contacted by The Post. “I can’t do all the things I love with MLB Network and the Angels while being away almost 30 weekends a year.”
Vasgersian, 54, worked his last game for ESPN on Tuesday when the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
Earlier Tuesday, The Post reported that ESPN would like Rodriguez to return to “Sunday Night Baseball”.
Potential Vasgersian replacements include Boog Sciambi, Karl Ravech, Jason Benetti, Michael Kay, Ryan Ruocco and Dave Flemming.
