US Marshals say husband of murdered social media star killed himself in a Florida home when authorities came forward to arrest him in connection with his wife’s death last year in Texas
FORT MYERS, Florida – The husband of a murdered social media star committed suicide at a Florida home when authorities arrived to arrest him on charges related to his wife’s death last year in Texas, according to the US Marshals and the police.
A Houston Police Department detective told a press conference on Wednesday that there had been no confrontation at the Fort Myers, Fla. Home when the US Marshals arrived Tuesday night to attempt to ‘arrest Thomas Sharkey. When the man learned that the police were there, he went up the stairs inside the house and shot himself, Staff Sgt. Michael Burrow added.
The US Marshals released a brief statement saying they were executing a warrant after receiving a lead from law enforcement in Houston and located Sharkey before finding him dead. They didn’t elaborate.
Authorities said Sharkey was wanted outside Harris County, Texas, for murder in connection with the death of his wife, Alexis Robinault. The 26-year-old was found on November 28 in roadside bushes about 3 miles (nearly 5 kilometers) from her apartment.
Robinault had collected a significant number of subscribers on Instagram by showing beauty products. She identified herself as a “mentor” for a marketing company that sells hair and skin care products.
Houston Police Detective Burrow said the couple had been separated but had not filed for divorce. “He was interested in reconciling their relationship, and it didn’t appear to be,” he said.
