Assuming there is no sweep, the Red Sox and Rays are set to play Game 4 of their ALDS series at Fenway on Monday. This timeline could potentially lead to one of the most unique moments in Major League and Boston sporting history.

Game 4 wouldn’t be the only major sporting event to take place in the city on this day. Since it is a national holiday, the 2021 Boston Marathon – postponed from April due to COVID – is expected to take place that morning. Traditionally, the Red Sox play at 11 a.m. on Marathon Monday, which falls on Patriots’ Day when most people are absent from work and school. Will the program reflect this tradition for an October race?

According to John Tomase of NBC Sports Boston, the Red Sox are trying to make that happen. “With Marathon and possibly ALDS Game 4 both scheduled for Monday, I understand the Red Sox would like to host a traditional Patriots Day morning, but that’s logistically unlikely,” he added. . Tomase tweeted on Wednesday. “Still, there could be 4 games that day, which would put someone out the 2 or 3 p.m. window.”

So far, Major League Baseball has scheduled the first three games of the series, with games at 8:07 p.m. Thursday and 7:02 p.m. Friday in Tampa, and a 4:07 p.m. start Sunday in Boston. The four games scheduled for Monday – both ALDS Game 4 and NLDS Game 3 – are currently listed as “TBD”.

Of course, the Red Sox and Rays have to make it to Game 4 first. And if they do, that raises another question: Will the Red Sox be wearing their yellow Boston Marathon uniforms since it’s technically the marathon on Monday?
