SAINT ANTHONY – “What day and what time is the trick-or-treat?” “
Those of us who were born and raised in San Antonio may find this question odd, but it is asked in many neighborhood Facebook groups. Some KSAT viewers send emails and direct social media messages asking for the same.
If you’ve lived in the San Antonio area all of your life, you might not realize that some neighborhoods, communities, and towns have rules regarding trick-or-treat. For example, some regions have age restrictions – a fact that made the headlines a few years ago.
Other areas have designated dates and times for the trick-or-treat. The town of Anniston, Alabama, announced this week that Halloween will be celebrated on October 30 of this year. There was even a push to create a National Trick or Treat Day.

Here in San Antonio and the surrounding communities, there are no such limitations. The kids will be making treats on October 31 at lunchtime. You may see younger children as early as 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m., while older children can wait until around 7 p.m.
It is traditionally assumed that houses with their porch lights on participate in the holidays, those without light should be avoided.
And it is generally accepted that the trick-or-treat should end between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the latest.
Sure, some neighborhoods and communities have additional events throughout October, but these guidelines are pretty universal for the San Antonio area on Halloween night.
