PROVO, Utah – BYU quarterback Jaren Hall has been out since the game against Arizona State on Sept. 18, where he said he was “on the rise.”
Well, it was more than just a gust of wind. Hall has missed the last two games due to the injury suffered against ASU.
The big scenario for BYU 5-0 ahead of a rivalry game against Boise State is Hall’s health. Especially now after Baylor Romney suffered a head injury and showed signs of being in concussion protocol after the victory over Utah State in Logan last Friday. BYU coach Kalani Sitake said Monday that all three QBs are “in contention to play this week” against the Broncos.
Hall was on KSL’s UnRivaled for his weekly “Players Club” appearance and was asked where his progress is heading in a rivalry clash with 2-3 Boise State this week.
Jaren Hall provides update on the progress of his injury
“It’s the same day after day,” Hall said. “But I’m pretty confident that I’ll be ready to go this week and continue to work with the training staff to somehow resolve the issues I’m facing right now.”
Hall has amassed 561 yards this season with seven touchdown passes and just two interceptions in three starts. He also showed his double threat ability by racking up 166 yards on 20 carries. That’s good for 8.3 yards per carry when the second student in the red shirt chooses to run with the football.
Sitake said after the victory over Utah State that Hall was “about to play.” But, the sixth-year head coach added, “He trained, but we didn’t feel like he was good enough yet. We felt like Baylor had a better week of training so we’re just going to feel it and figure out what’s best for the player, number one, and then what’s good for our team.
Hall was asked about UnRivaled when he was excluded from the Utah State game last week.
“Until the day before the game. Just understand where my body is. Not being able to do some of the things in training that I had to do in a game, ”Hall said.
Hall on Jacob Conover’s performance against USU
If Hall and Romney aren’t available, BYU will likely go with Jacob Conover against the Broncos. The departure would be the first in the career of the former four-star rookie at BYU.
From what Hall saw on the sidelines last week at Logan, he was impressed with the young first-year flagman at Conover.
“He looked very calm. I think of a lot of guys when you tell them, “Hey, you come in. I think you can kind of see in their eyes, not the shock wick, but just a little “Oh, shoot, it’s my time,” Hall said. “And with Jake, it wasn’t like that. You know, he said, ‘Alright, yeah, I’m good to go.’ I just went out and did his thing and we won the game. So I’m super happy for him and that’s what we expected of him when he walked in.
