Hell has a new head to put a bunch of pins in, with Hollywood journalist saying that Jamie Clayton from The L word: generation Q has joined the cast of David Bruckner’s new film Hellraiser movie. Clayton will play Pinhead, the leader of a group of perfectly sympathetic and respectable extra-dimensional beings called the Cenobites who are so deeply rooted in sadomasochism that they can no longer tell the difference between pleasure and pain. They also have a special appreciation for ripping skin and twisting it into new and exciting shapes, and although we’re not saying it’s wrong, we’re saying it’s not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea.
Traditionally, this this is what the Cenobites are in the many, many others Hellraiser movies. Some humans miss the earthly pleasures they have experienced and thirst for something Following, they solve the evil puzzle to summon the Cenobites, then they rip off their skin. We don’t know exactly what’s going to happen in this new one Hellraiser, but it will probably be a variation of that, and THR adds that it will be a “faithful but evolved reimagining” of the original film (and the Clive Barker short story the film was based on).
In addition to Clayton’s Pinhead, the film will star Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic, Drew Darkey, Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds, Hiam Abbass and Selina Lo. Barker is producing the film, having recently reclaimed the rights to Hellraiser, and he says it’s “Hellraiser on a scale I just didn’t expect. The film is set to premiere on Hulu at some point next year, and as far as we can tell, it’s the same. Hellraiser reboot that was previously conceived as a TV series on HBO no later than last October. Either that or we have several Underworld run, which is fine, if that’s what people like.
