It has all the hallmarks of an A24 horror movie: a scary atmosphere, good acting, dark humor, and of course, a cool / weird concept.
Hi moviegoers! In case you haven’t heard of it, A24’s latest film is a movie titled Lamb, and it’s … WIIIIIILD.

Now if you are an A24 stan (come on, don’t lie, you clicked on it after all!) Then I can tell you right now that you are going to love this movie. It has all the hallmarks of an A24 horror / horror release – a scary atmosphere, good acting, a bit of dark humor, and of course, a cool / weird concept.

There’s also a lot of exploration of motherhood, heartache, and infidelity – although, I admit, what the movie tries to say on these topics is a bit vague. Having said that, I was still very advanced on the journey.
But before we begin, this is your fair warning that there are spoilers ahead. However, if you’ve seen the trailer, you probably already know most of it.
So, Lamb follows the story of a couple – Maria and Ingvar (who, by the way, are shepherds … very allegorical!) – living in the Icelandic countryside. They are played by EXCELLENT Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Guðnason. Maria and Ingvar lead very cold and routine lives – tending their sheep, plowing their land and drinking lots of coffee. Everything is calm, everything is clear (seriously, because they live in Iceland it is almost NEVER dark … the sun is literally still up when they go to bed).

Now, without going into ~ super ~ spoiler territory, I can tell you that Maria and Ingvar are blessed / cursed one day when one of their sheep gives birth to a lamb that is actually half human (or maybe half demon ?!).
And you can probably guess, but some crazy shit is going on from there.
Surprisingly, however, there are also a lot of REALLY sweet and cute moments! Like, who knew I would find such an adorable half-human, half-sheep creature ?! IT’S SO CUTE ????
You should also know that the movie is GORGEOUS – like, I heard Iceland is beautiful, but this movie makes me want to move right there (minus all the weird stuff).
Also … are all animals REALLY good actors? Like the Icelandic border collie from the movie (whose IRL name is PANDA !!!) literally won an award at Cannes *!

* Although, sadly, this is a posthumous award, with Panda having passed away in March earlier this year. His owner and breeder accepted his price for him.
For real, I was very impressed with ALL the animals in the movie – the sheep, the horses, the dog, THE CAT !!! Give them all the rewards.
And the movie does a great job of creating a SUPER weird atmosphere. I was uncomfortable and scared of the opening scene.
But don’t worry, if you don’t like ~ scary ~ movies, this isn’t this movie. Scary and weird? Yes. Scary? No.

Lamb won’t be for everyone, but if you like dark, atmospheric movies that are beautiful, have a weird backstory, and… cute things, then 10/10 recommends you check this one out!
