Apple has released a new firmware version for its AirPods Pro headphones, and the company has added some handy new features, including one that will reinforce the other person’s voice when you’re having a conversation.
AirPods Pro’s new chat boost feature
Apple first previewed the new Chat Boost feature at WWDC, and it’s now available to AirPods Pro owners, as MacRumors noted.
Although not quite a hearing aid, this feature is designed to help you hear people speak more clearly and louder. Instead of your headphones blocking the conversation with the outside world, AirPods Pro headphones will help you hear better.
Obviously, the feature is designed to help people with minor hearing problems, and it won’t replace a real hearing aid. However, if you sometimes find hearing conversations a bit difficult, this feature could be a game-changer.
To use the new feature, you first need to make sure your AirPods Pro earphones are updated to firmware version 4A400. Once you are up to date, open the Settings app, tap “Accessibility”, then “Audio / visual”, then “Headset hosting”, tap “Transparency mode”, and finally switch to “Conversation Boost” .
Now with Conversation Boost
Apple AirPods Pro
Only AirPods Pro include Conversation Boost feature. If you have standard AirPods and want this feature, you will need to upgrade.
Other New Features in 4A400 Firmware
The AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have also just been able to take advantage of Apple’s Find My network. Now, in the unfortunate event that you misplace your earbuds or earphones, you can use the same network as iPhones to find them.

Prior to firmware 4A400, you could use the Find My app to track them if they were in Bluetooth range, but once outside, you wouldn’t be able to track them. Now you can use the power of other Apple devices to help you find your AirPods Pro and AirPods Max wherever they are.
