As far as TV spirits go, we would run in the opposite direction of everything, say, Wrong. But we wouldn’t mind being haunted by CBS at all ‘ Ghosts, which delivers more laughter than fear in its early days.

Based on the BBC One sitcom, the two-episode premiere begins with Manhattanites Sam (played by Zombie‘s Rose McIver) and her husband Jay (I have never‘s Utkarsh Ambudkar) discovering that her great-aunt left behind a large estate. Jay is reluctant to uproot their lives, while Sam is excited about the free mansion she has just inherited.

Sam and Jay are unaware that the estate is also home to a comedic group of ghosts who have died at different times in history: there’s the militiaman / dandy Isaac from the 1700s (The two othersby Brandon Scott Jones); Eighties Boy Scout Leader Pete (What we do in the shadows guest star Richie Moriarty); Prohibition singer Alberta (Young Sheldonby Danielle Pinnock); pantless 90s financier brother Trevor (Asher Grodman); a Native American named Sasappis (Austin & Allyby Román Zaragoza); a 60s hippie named Flower (Joan the Virginby Sheila Carrasco); Viking Thorfinn (Fate Patrolby Devan Chandler Long); and Hetty (sneaky young ladies‘Rebecca Wisocky), Sam’s distant relative from the 1800s and former owner of the estate.

When Sam and Jay first arrive, the Ghosts are overjoyed at the prospect of a young couple having fun to watch (and something to do besides listening to each other’s daily lectures). But their excitement quickly turns to horror when they learn that the couple are planning to turn the place into a hotel, which means it will be overrun with people passing through them constantly (the worst pain for a ghost). They decide to haunt “the living” to frighten them. The plan is for Thor – who was struck by lightning – to flash the lights a bit, and when Sam and Jay walk through Isaac, they’ll sense how ranked he was when he died of dysentery. Meanwhile, Trevor will barely spill anything after deploying all of his energy, and Alberta will be humming a “scary” song.

GhostsInstead of being scared, Sam and Jay accuse each other of farting, then argue later. He thinks they are completely overwhelmed by the decay of the place and wants to return to Manhattan. A distraught Sam rushes over and trips over the vase Trevor has knocked over, stumbling down the stairs. When she wakes up from a coma two weeks later, Jay surprises her by telling her that he has hired contractors to fix the area. But Sam has an even bigger surprise when she can suddenly see all the ghosts and communicate with them.

After that, the ghosts harass Sam to recognize them and agree to their request that she and Jay cancel the hotel renovation. They keep bombarding her to the point where Sam Google “takes a psychotic break” and goes to see a doctor, who turns out to be a ghost too! It’s reassuring for Sam, because if she sees different ghosts in different places, then they’re not just in her head. Jay, of course, doesn’t believe in his wife’s new abilities until she takes him to the basement full of zombies ghosts dead from cholera. Relaying the detailed instructions from the spirits, she dictates to Jay how to repair the boiler. And how could she know how to do that if the ghosts aren’t real?

Ghost RecapSam also finally recognizes the ghosts upstairs and asks each of them what they want, as they cannot continue to cohabit as they once were. Having learned that he is only a footnote in the story as his rival Alexander Hamilton rose to fame, Isaac asks freelance writer Sam to write his biography and adapt it into a musical. . The others are responding with their demands – world peace for Flower, the return of the Vikings to the “sorcerer’s window” (aka TV) for Thor – and so far, the living and the dead seem to have made some sort of treaty. peace.
