Four-star tight end Jaleel Skinner, the top tight end and No. 74 overall in the 2022 class, announced his engagement in Alabama Friday afternoon live on CBS Sports HQ. Skinner, who was celebrating his 18th birthday, chose the Crimson Tide over a group of finalists including Texas, Florida State, Clemson and Florida.

“The deciding factor for me – my family and I thought really hard – we loved the coaches, we loved Nick Saban and his family. They always pushed me to be the best… just to tell him about life was great.” Skinner said before adding. “It was a very close decision… no one is cut yet.”

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound IMG Academy player in Bradenton, Fla. Is the 10th best player in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports provided this screening report on Skinner:

“A legitimate 6ft 5in with a slender build. The wingspan spans over 80inches,” Ivins wrote. “One of the most unique skill players in the class of 2022 given his long lifespan. Spent most of his preparation career on the sidelines as a jumbo wide receiver. Considered by most college staff, however, like a flexible tight end to the next level. Extraordinary catch radius. Uses a long stride to make your way through the field. Enjoys soft cover consistently. Is not the most physical of prospects, but is relatively competitive after capture.

“The track history has helped foster some straight-line speed. An entry-level blocker at this point in his development, which is almost expected for someone on the leaner side. He will obviously need to pick up some volume. as he weighed less than 225 pounds in the spring before senior season.. Also needs to improve to attack the ball in midair and could become smoother with his movements. By no means a polished product, but has an extremely high cap. given the physical stature. Should eventually contribute to a Top 25 program and make an impact in the passing game once the body matures. NFL upside down. “

Skinner transferred to IMG from Greer High School in South Carolina. He has made official visits to Florida, Alabama, Texas, Miami and the state of Florida since the dead recruiting period ended on June 1. He is the 16th player to commit to coaching Nick Saban’s program during the current recruiting cycle.
