Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the all-electric flagship model, the Mercedes-Benz EQS, will have an EPA range of up to 350 miles (563 km). This is the value of the rear wheel drive EQS 450+ version.
All-wheel drive EQS 580 4MATIC has a slightly lower EPA range of 340 miles (547 km). Both cars are equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery (useful capacity).
The range scores are high … but lower than our expectations. This is a surprise to us, as we expected an even better result, closer to or better than 400 miles (644 km), which would be more in line with the WLTP maximum range of up to 784 km (487 miles). .
We’re not quite sure why the range isn’t closer to 400 miles, given the size of the battery and the great aerodynamics.
Another thing is that the difference between the EQS 450+ RWD with 20 “wheels and the dual all-wheel drive EQS 580 4MATIC with 21” wheels appears to be very small on paper – only 10 miles (16 km). ) or less than 3%.
As the final EPA documents are not yet available, we have to wait and see if the numbers are not intentionally lowered by the manufacturer (this sometimes happens) and how the EPA numbers compare to the ones. Inside electric vehicles‘Range test at 70 mph.
Anyway, to this day it looks like the Mercedes-Benz EQS is unable to beat the Tesla Model S on the EPA lineup and the Lucid Air with its 520 mile (837 km) result is either completely out of reach of anyone.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS will hit the US market later this year, starting with an MSRP of $ 102,310.
