In her new memoir, veteran journalist Katie Couric revealed Prince Harry smelled of cigarettes and alcohol when she first met him, according to a “Going There” manuscript obtained by the Daily Mail.
Couric first met the royal in 2012 during a polo match in Brazil, the Daily Mail reported. She was there on assignment interviewing him for an ABC special about Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, according to E! New.
When she met Prince Harry, the reporter said he was in his “wild oat sowing phase”. It was just two months before he was infamously photographed naked on a trip to Las Vegas, according to E! New.
In Couric’s new memoir, the Daily Mail said, the news anchor recalled how the prince reeked of cigarettes and alcohol seemed to “seep out of every pore” of his body.
Prince Harry previously called the years 2012 to 2016 a “nightmare time” in his life, according to USA Today.
He has become the fodder of tabloids around the world, and newspapers have chronicled every detail of the so-called party prince’s wild days.
The royal said during those years he had relied on drugs and alcohol to deal with his mental health issues, USA Today reported.
It was his wife, Meghan Markle, whom he met in 2016, who finally pushed him to start therapy, the outlet said.
