A North Carolina man won nearly $ 200,000 on a lottery ticket he forgot to buy – and is now considering using the money to change careers.
Gregory Warren, a mechanic in Franklinville, picked up a Cash 5 lottery ticket for the September 29 draw while filling up with gas a day after work.
“I don’t buy lottery tickets very often,” Warren told lottery officials. “It turns out I picked a good day to buy one!” “
He only checked the ticket on Monday, October 4. It was then that Warren realized he had won half of a jackpot of $ 391,870.
“I forgot about it,” Warren said Tuesday as he picked up his prize at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters in Raleigh. “I’m still a little shocked. I didn’t get much sleep last night. Too much excitement!”
After federal and state tax withholding, he walked away with $ 138,624.
“I think I’ll go into business for myself by mowing jobsites,” Warren said. “I have a 14 year old son and I want to start a business so he has something to do when he graduates from high school.”
The other half of the jackpot went to a New Bern woman.
The odds of Warren winning a Cash 5 jackpot? Lottery officials said it was 1 in 962,598
