Two Ex Gender Swap lets you play the whole game as a woman

The Lay D Denton fashion is a huge project that takes over the original Deus Ex and lets you play through the whole thing not like a gruff cyberpunk dude, but like a gruff cyberpunk woman instead.

If you think this just means a quick character model swap, you couldn’t be further from the truth. It is extensive, and resulted in changes throughout the game:

The Lay D Denton project was started to fulfill a major feature of the original game; the ability to select the gender of the protagonist. While a template swap and voice plugin could create a cheap facsimile, we felt that would be woefully insufficient. Immersion is a core feature of the Deus Ex experience, and a half-implemented JC Denton woman would sabotage that. Either we’re doing it right or we shouldn’t care.

It’s our attempt to do it right.

The mod team designed the project around four key principles. These are voiceovers (each of Denton’s 1,700 lines of dialogue has been redone by a new voice actor), redesigned NPCs (to better reflect their possible relationships with a female protagonist), a new player model (which has had its sound effects). re-recorded, and which is half a head shorter than the original) and, perhaps most impressive, a commitment to get back into the game and change the pronouns on the whole thing, by changing each “He” to “She” and each “Guy” to “Girl”.

It’s just a huge amount of work for a mod to do, but like they said, there’s no point in doing it unless it’s done right, and they certainly have done it here. .
