Woman shot dead in Hollywood, gunman on the run

LOS ANGELES — Authorities in Southern California are looking for the gunman who shot dead a woman on a Hollywood subway line after a brief confrontation.

The victim was discovered early Sunday with a gunshot wound to the neck, Fox 11 reported. She was rushed to hospital where she died. The incident happened at the Hollywood / Vine station around 5 a.m.

Witnesses attempted to perform CPR on the woman, according to an NBC report. Witnesses described the gunman as a Hispanic man in a blue jacket who appeared restless and paced the train.

After the shooting, he got off the train and headed for Hollywood Blvd.

Los Angeles magazine reported that there were more than 350 murders in the city in 2021, which is a 38% increase from 2019.
