Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham claimed on Sunday that she had “in fact tried to resign several times” in the six months leading up to the deadly January 6 riots.

Meet the press Moderator Chuck Todd has grilled Grisham, who is currently promoting her revealing memoir, on why readers should trust her anti-Trump turn given how long she has been in his administration. “You waited until January 6, some might argue the day everyone wanted to run for Team Trump Hills,” Todd asked. “Why have you waited so long? ”

In turn, Grisham, the only White House press secretary in history to never hold a press briefing, confessed that she regretted not being out sooner. “Over the past six months or so, I have tried to quit on several occasions and Ms. Trump has dissuaded me from doing so,” she said. “I had a resignation letter written with very specific points that I was ready to hand over at any time. January 6, of course, was my breaking point. Grisham added that she was “really proud” to be “the first in the administration to step down” that day. (Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger, Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, and Social Secretary Rickie Niceta also resigned on Jan.6.)
