The courageous story of Selma Blair’s life after her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018 is at the center of the new documentary Introducing, Selma Blair.
And over the weekend, the Cruel Intentions star cried to the applause that followed the premiere screening at the Sag Harbor Cinema on Saturday, October 9 in the Hamptons.
The actress, who underwent chemotherapy treatments the year after her diagnosis of MS, leading to her hair loss, also became emotional when she hosted a reception for the film during the 2021 Hampton Film Festival at the Reform Club near Amagansett, New York. REmotinal:

Wearing a rose-inspired Rodarte gown and black heels for the premiere in Sag Harbor, New York, Blair shone in the event’s spotlight on the red carpet, alongside filmmaker Rachel Fleit.
Since people with MS face mobility issues and an increased risk of falling, she walked with a cane, she leaned on while taking several poses on the red carpet.
Having already received rave reviews since her debut at the virtual event South by Southwest in March, audiences at the premiere confirmed the rave reviews by giving her and Blair a round of enthusiastic applause.

She was brought to tears by the public reaction, which the Michigan native acknowledged during a question-and-answer panel held afterwards.
“I wasn’t feeling well a minute ago,” she confessed, referring to her emotional reaction, adding, “I’ve gotten here a little bit now, so thank you.”
Selma explained: ‘I also have a pseudobulbar effect [involuntary laughing and crying due to a nervous system disorder], so I can’t stop crying. It’s better than the alternative. The other thing that happens with pseudobulbar is just meanness, so tears are better. I wish I could assemble myself more carefully in front of a crowd. It means so much.
Wardrobe Change: Blair transformed into an off-the-shoulder gown for the reception that included guests such as fashion designer Christian Siriano
Emotions run high: Journalist Keah Brown was also present for the party, which also included emotional moments for Blair
After the screening, the Legally Blonde star would change into a more elegant, off-the-shoulder gown for the reception, which was shown as part of the 2021 Hampton Film Festival.
And once again, emotions ran high as she and Fleit took the tour to chat with guests including fashion designer Christian Siriano, author and journalist Keah Brown and Broadway star Mickey Liddell.
Blair made her diagnosis of MS public in October 2018, after suffering for years from unexplained symptoms such as falls, falling objects and hazy memory.
She then endured two months of grueling chemotherapy treatments in the summer of 2019, followed by intense physical therapy.

Normally associated with cancer, chemotherapy can also be very effective in killing cells that break down the nervous system, which can slow the disease or stop it altogether. But this has a physical cost which varies from patient to patient.
By September 2019, the Michigan native referred to physical therapy as “the start of my healing journey” and “the long way to get to where I want to be.”
Along the way, Blair has given his 2.5 million Instagram fans and followers brief updates on his condition and snippets of his life going forward.
Now people can see her brave journey up close in the new documentary, which debuts in theaters on October 15, in a limited release, before moving to the Discovery + streaming service on October 21.
