On this quiet Friday night, Microsoft announces the end of support for Microsoft Health and Microsoft Band applications. The company will close the Microsoft Health Dashboard Web site and remove Microsoft Band applications from Android, Apple, and Microsoft application stores on May 31.
Microsoft says that those who own a Microsoft Band device will be able to continue using their devices, although you do not have any "web-connected" features. The company will allow users to export their existing data to other services until May 31, 2019.
If the Microsoft Band application is still installed after service support is complete, it will simply stop working because Microsoft will completely remove the plug-in from the backend that supports the service.
In terms of features, you'll still be able to record and track things like steps, heart rate and other basic workouts, as well as activity data on your tape. You will be able to continue to monitor your sleep and set the alarms for the band, but none of the functions using the cloud or the phone application will work anymore.
(Fortunately), Microsoft allows some users to get a refund on their devices band, based on the following criteria. Eligible customers will receive $ 79.99 for the original group or $ 175 for the second generation group.
- Have a band that is covered by its limited warranty; OR
- Are active users. An active user is defined as a user who has worn the wristband and has synchronized bracelet data to the health dashboard between 01/12/2018 and 01/03/2019.
At this point, Microsoft has no surprise if we stop manufacturing new Band devices. The last group was released in 2015 and not all of its apps have been updated recently. The company's health platform has also lagged behind other platforms. It is therefore logical to close the service completely. Unless you are still actively using your Band device – and in this case, you may want to try to get a refund or just buy a new device.
Thanks for the advice, Chris and poleaxe!
