Parental Opinion: "Momo Challenge" bothers and encourages children to self-destruct

A new worrying challenge is gaining popularity on social media.

This is what is called the "Momo Challenge".

His appearance is not only scary, but his message as well.

Part of the video says, "Hold the handle and press hard on your wrists."

And his target is the kids.

"I can not believe that someone would stay here and encourage suicide," Austin Williams said.

Williams watched the video after his little sister told him about the challenge.

"She has a phone," said Williams. "So, she's constantly on YouTube and Facebook."

According to Williams, alarming videos are hidden in popular YouTube and YouTube Kids videos, but Momo still does not show up.

"There are videos where only the voices come into the video," Williams said.

Nobody really knows where the Momo Challenge comes from or who is behind it, but Deputy Superintendent Steve Horton of the Okaloosa County School District said it was important for people to know about it, especially the parents.

"Often, students are more technologically savvy than their parents," said Horton.

After seizing dubious content internally, the district sent a letter with a warning to the parents.

"Not only are we filtering all of our content and videos to protect students in their online learning, but we are also organizing digital citizenship training with them, so we are learning how to become good Internet users." said Horton. "It's just as important that in times like this, parents and students have the opportunity to talk about Internet safety."

Some claim that the video is fake, but many of you go to the WEAR Facebook page and say that your kids have it too.

Anyway, the video is disturbing.

"Momo's last words are," I'll come get you in your sleep, "said Williams.

Even though the videos are not real, some say at least that they generate a conversation to get people to pay attention to what kids are watching online.

YouTube has posted a statement asking users to report inappropriate content when they encounter it.
