In view of the recent influx of collapsible smartphones from Android manufacturers, a new report suggests that Samsung Display is in talks with Apple to provide the company with folding screens for smartphones. Meanwhile, a separate rendering – seen above – imagines what a foldable iPad might look like.

According to a report by AND NewsBy citing industry sources, Samsung Display has delivered to Apple a set of foldable screens. The screens are said to be 7.2 inches, which is slightly smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
Last month, an analyst suggested that Samsung not use Apple's foldable display technology to preserve the uniqueness of its own Galaxy Fold. This week's report, however, suggests that Samsung Display is also looking to be a foldable technology provider, as is the case with normal OLED displays.
Currently, Samsung provides the OLED panels used in iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Apple and Samsung regularly work in partnership on display technology for iPhone. It is therefore not surprising that this trend continues with foldable technology.
"We know that Samsung Display has provided a set of foldable disks to Apple and Google to fully develop its folder display activity and discover its customers," said an industry source familiar with the Samsung Foldable Display.
Meanwhile, a rendering of LetsGoDigital imagine what a collapsible iPad design might look like. This concept describes an iPad that can act as a "complete workstation", but can also be folded for easier use on the go.
Last week, a patent from Apple described how a folding smartphone could avoid being damaged when the screen is folded and unfolded several times. Of course, a patent does not mean in any case that Apple is about to launch a collapsible iPhone or a collapsible iPad.
What do you think of this foldable iPad rendering? Do you prefer a foldable iPhone or foldable iPad? Or a combination of both? Let us know in the comments.
