A US Coast Guard lieutenant was arrested Monday for indictment of firearms and drugs in a case, authorities said. He was allegedly involved in a plot to kill several prominent Democrats and radio and television journalists.
Christopher Hasson, 49, has pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful possession of firearms silencers, possession of firearms by an addict and an unlawful user, and possession of a controlled substance.
Hasson was arrested last month in the parking lot of the Coast Guard headquarters where he had been working for three years. A search of his apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland, found 15 firearms, including seven rifles and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
According to court documents filed by the government, Hasson was a self-proclaimed white nationalist who hoped to establish a "white homeland" by violent means. He also allegedly drew up a blacklist containing the names of Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, and other senior Democrats, as well as MSNBC hosts. , Chris Hayes and Joe Scarborough, and Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo and Van Jones.
Hasson has not been charged with terrorism. His original public defender said federal prosecutors exaggerated his potential links with terrorism.
He incurs up to 31 years in prison if he is found guilty of all the charges against him.
