On Sunday, baseball coach Corey Crum, his wife and son joined a group of teammates and parents in the field to repair the damage caused by the Category 4 storm.
But this day of reparations became tragic when 39-year-old coach Crum and his 41-year-old wife Shana were killed and their 14-year-old son seriously injured.
When Coach Crum used an aerial platform to unload a piece of equipment from a trailer, it came into contact with overhead power lines, according to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office in Bristol, Florida.
The contact electrified the aerial work platform and the Crum trainer was electrocuted. Shana Crum tried to help her and was also electrocuted. His son was injured when he tried to help, police said.
The first responders were called to the scene around 12:45 pm and declared Corey and Shana Crum dead. Their son has been hospitalized and is expected to recover. The family lived in Sumatra, Florida.
Liberty County schools were shut down for two weeks after the storm and high school lost four classrooms in the vocation building, CNN affiliate WCTV reported in late October.
