SEATTLE – According to a new study, the Seattle area may not have the best drivers to avoid collisions, but we are among the least aggressive in the country.
Among the 30 most populous cities in the country, Seattle ranks 29th on the list of aggressive drivers, according to GasBuddy. The application uses data from drivers who share their driving habits with the company to learn how to improve their fuel efficiency.
Drivers in the Seattle area record just over 10% of driving incidents that are aggressive compared to the national average. Only Minneapolis ranks less aggressive with just over 12.5% less than the national average. Portland is also considered less aggressive when it comes to 27th place.
On the other hand, our southern neighbors are the king of aggressive driving. Los Angeles ranked the worst score at nearly 22% above average, just on the edge of the "City of Brotherly Love" that apparently does not translate into the roads around Philadelphia. But California had 4 cities in the Top 10, Sacramento being third, San Francisco 5th and San Diego 6th.
The study also noted the number of cities where drivers have "lead foot" and incidents where speed is the fastest, and found that drivers in the Pacific Northwest are more likely to move forward than the zooms. Seattle finished last in 30th place with a speed rating nearly 71% below the national average, while Portland was 28th at 56%. (29th? New York. Really? Guess too much traffic to go fast?)
San Diego is the worst offender at speed, ahead of Orlando and Detroit who tied for second.
Which drivers are faster to accelerate? Los Angeles and Philadelphia equaled 26.5% faster accelerations than the average driver. Once again, Seattle is tied for 25th with Portland and Pittsburgh.

According to the study, if you are looking to avoid aggressive drivers, Wednesday will have the least events in the country, while on Friday, aggressive driving will increase dramatically.
