A lawyer representing Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, said in a letter on Tuesday that his client could have been "clearer" regarding the time frame in which he told the company's supervisory committee. House that he "had never asked" thanks to the president.

Michael D. Monico, a Cohen lawyer, sent the letter to the committee leader and insisted that his client never personally asked Trump to forgive him, despite his previous request.

Trump criticized Cohen in a tweet shortly after the hearing by writing: "An evil lawyer and fraudster, Michael Cohen, testified that he had never asked for pardon." His lawyers contradicted him. He also lied, he even asked me for a pardon, I said NO He still lied, he also wanted to work in the White House, he lied! "

Cohen was once part of the Trump Joint Defense Agreement, known as the JDA. The agreement allows lawyers to share details without risking breaching solicitor-client privileges. When Cohen told the committee that he had never asked for a pardon, it was "written in the context" of his decision to step out of the deal in June and "tell the truth".

Monico wrote that it was time for Trump to publicly suspend the possibility of a pardon. Cohen asked his former lawyer to discuss rehabilitation options with another Trump lawyer, but "nothing has happened".

His testimony "could have been clearer and more complete with respect to the distinction between pre-JDA and post-JDA time periods," according to the letter.

Cohen should be sentenced to three years in jail in May.
