Ikea's "Affordable" speakers powered by Sonos will be unveiled April 9

You've seen the prototypes, but now, Ikea has set the date when its first Symfonisk speakers with Sonos will be displayed. The "products" (plural) will be unveiled on April 9 in Milan, before they go on sale in August.

"Ikea and Sonos have shown a prototype to the world," reads in Ikea's press release, "a bookshelf speaker offering customers an excellent connected speaker that allows for multifunctional use at home, an affordable price".

The cheapest Sonos speaker – the Play: 1 – is currently selling for $ 149.

A teaser video released by Ikea shows two digitally masked speakers: one hanging on the kitchen wall (or is it perched on a shelf?) And the other next to a sofa on a side table. Or maybe we are looking at a single speaker with several editing options. Anyway, what we will see in April will be the first of a series of speakers, as we have already seen with Ikea's flourishing range, Tradfri, of intelligent lamps, dimmers, switches and, soon, controllers for electric blinds.

Sonos said Ikea loudspeakers would be fully integrated with Sonos' existing line of wireless speakers, as well as Ikea's Tradfri smart device line. The Ikea and Sonos Feel Home exhibition will take place from 9 to 14 April as part of Design Week in Milan.
