Chick-fil-A was banned from opening a new location at the San Antonio International Airport.

On Thursday, San Antonio City Council approved a seven-year dealership agreement for new restaurants and businesses in Texas Airport Terminal A with Paradies Lagardère, a travel retailer and restaurateur working with more than 100 airports .

Chick-fil-A initially appeared in the plans, but council members changed plans to exclude the chicken restaurant, with some citing concerns about its record on LGBTQ issues. The amendment was approved by 6-4 votes.

Councilor Roberto Treviño said in a statement after the vote that by this decision, the council "reaffirmed the work done by our city to become a champion of equality and inclusion".

"San Antonio is a city full of compassion and we have no place in our public facilities for a company with traditional anti-LGBTQ behavior," Treviño said in his statement. "Everyone has a place here and everyone should feel welcome when they cross our airport."

Chick-fil-A, based in Atlanta, said in a statement to the US TODAY "HUI that" the press release issued by the council member was the first to have heard of his motion and his approval by the San Antonio City Council ".
