A 25-year-old man from Arizona is behind bars after apparently stabbing his girlfriend to death after crashing his car on a highway.
Fernando Acosta of Phoenix has been charged with first degree murder with intent and aggravated assault in the death of Martha Thy.
Acosta allegedly crushed Thy's white Lexus sedan after being removed from the Loop 101 highway in Peoria just before 7 am Friday and reportedly started stabbing her in the car.

Muñoz said that it was a chaotic and frenetic scene.
"People all over the world are shouting, screaming, so you can imagine how an officer feels when he arrives at the scene and sees only people running everywhere," he added.
Thy was rushed to hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
Acosta was still behind bars on Saturday. A reason was not disclosed.
They lived in San Diego. Her owner told 10 News that Acosta was her boyfriend and a "normal guy". He said that Acosta had spent "time in prison".
The owner stated that Thy was an aunt, a sister, a daughter and a hard worker. She was planning to move to Arizona to get closer to her sister, who had bought a house there. She will be put to rest in California.
