Two police officers shot at a man alleged to have been charged with a knife after hitting his car in a police car outside Bayside's 111th constituency on Sunday afternoon, then attempted to shoot her, as well as his own car.

The suspect, a man in his thirties, is currently in a stable condition at the New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital after being repeatedly hit on the torso and leg, said NYPD Patrol Chief Rodney Harrison on March 24. His identity has not yet been revealed.

Harrison said the trouble started at 3 pm on March 24 outside the 111th City station house located at the corner of Northern Boulevard and 215th Street.

On the basis of a preliminary investigation, the police learned that the man had hit his own vehicle in an unmarked NYPD patrol car. He then got out of his own car and started spraying an accelerator on both vehicles before starting to light his own car, Harrison said.

Two officers from the police station then confronted the suspect. "The subject was wielding a knife and charging the agents," Harrison said, causing both officers to use their weapons multiple times.

The police found the knife that the suspect would have brandished, a 12-inch kitchen knife. Police posted a photo of the weapon at the press conference.

The two officers involved in the shootings were taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for an assessment, Harrison said.

An investigation is being conducted by the police investigation division of the New York Police, according to the chief.
