The Atlanta Braves and Ronald Acuna Jr. have agreed to a $ 100 million contract extension for an eight-year period, which will keep the star player under contract until the 2026 season.
The record deal, announced Tuesday, will include club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
The options are worth $ 17 million each, and the deal also includes a $ 10 million buyback of option years, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Acuna, 21, becomes the youngest player in the history of baseball to sign a contract of at least $ 100 million.
If the Braves chose to exercise both options, Acuna would be under contract control throughout its 30-year season. Acuna was to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
This agreement marks a major financial commitment from the Braves, who have recruited only one other player, the first-baseman. Freddie Freeman, to a nine-digit contract in the history of the franchise.
Freeman has signed an extension of $ 135 million over eight years before the 2014 season.
Acuna won the National League Rookie of the Year title last season, beating .293 with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs.
