Amy Adams must play in the adaptation of Netflix's "Hilllbilly Elegy", which Ron Howard is about to direct, Variety has learned.
Shape of Water writer Vanessa Taylor adapted the screenplay with Brian Grazer, Howard and Karen Lunder to production for Imagine Entertainment. Julie Oh and J.D. Vance will be executive producers.
Based on JD Vance's best-selling memoir, the film is a modern exploration of the American Dream and follows three generations of an Appalachian family, as told by its youngest member, a student of Yale Law, forced to return to his hometown.
Imagine develops the photo since 2017, the year of the acquisition of the rights. In January, Netflix boarded the project after winning a fierce war to fund the $ 45 million feature.
Adams had a busy year starting with his role in HBO's 'Sharp Objects' limited edition, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. She then starred in the role of Oscar-nominated Lynn Cheney in Dick Cheney's "Vice" biopic.
It can be seen later in the adaptation of the bestseller "Woman in the Window" of the New York Times, starring Julianne Moore and directed by Joe Wright. It is taken over by WME, Brillstein Entertainment, attorneys Jason Sloane and Harris Hartman and Narrative PR.
