Twitter tests new tags for discussions

A few months ago, Twitter tested a label "original tweeter". The goal was to clarify who had started a thread and reduce spam. Last month, software engineer Jane Manchun Wong discovered a prototype "subscribe to a conversation" button that would allow users to follow a thread without wanting to or respond to it. These new labels seem to be an evolution of these two features.

While this may be a useful way of preventing spam and adding some clarity to the intricate discussions, users have expressed concern that the labels may be bothersome and unnecessary. Whether subscribers are ready or not, Twitter is committed to making things happen. In its experimental application, Twttr, the company also offers nested and color coded responses. We will have to wait to see what changes stick.
