We chose a compatible Vizio TV (which includes the current P and M series models nowadays) and took a look at the AirPlay 2 and HomeKit work on a non-Apple device.
AirPlay Support 2 on the Vizio TV allows TV shows and movies to be streamed directly from an iOS device to the TV, without the need for an Apple TV set-top box. A movie can be started on the iPhone and on AirPlayed directly on the TV, with support for 4K HDR and Dolby Vision included.
Mirroring the screen of a Mac or iOS device on the TV is also possible. You can view photos, spreadsheets, web pages, documents, games, and more. on the big screen of the TV. We could not use this feature in the beta, but it should be available in the launch version of the software.
AirPlay Support 2 allows multiple audio sources to play the same content, which means that a song can be played on a single TV, multiple TVs, or a Vizio TV, among others. AirPlay 2 compatible devices such as HomePods for home audio.
AirPlay Since Feature 2 is linked to HomeKit, Vizio TVs that support the new Apple protocols will appear directly in the Home app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
From the Home application, you can change the inputs, turn on and off the TV and adjust the volume. Siri can also be used for these commands, so a simple Hey Siri Voice requests on one of your devices can adjust the volume, turn on or off the TV, as with other HomeKit products.
Siri can AirPlay content from an iOS or Mac device on the TV too, which means a command like "Hey Siri, play Game of Thrones on the TV show "is a quick way to watch a TV show or movie without having to search for it.
From Vizio AirPlay 2 and HomeKit beta is open to all Vizio owners equipped with a Smartcast compatible TV. If you wish to register, you can do so on the Vizio website. At present, the beta version works with P and M series TVs from 2016 and beyond, but it will be extended to other Vizio TV owners.
